Busting stereotypes for people living with dementia

May 2, 2024 /Posted bysian.lockwood54@gmail.com / 314

Have you caught the latest episode of The Piano.

Duncan captured the hearts of the nation with his moving performance on ‘The Piano’.

Duncan and his wife Fran are friends who come every month to a local pop-up cafe  to play and sing to the people enjoying food and companionship. They create a very special atmosphere. Duncan is living with dementia and uses his wonderful talent to give pleasure to others.  Angela and I are so glad this has got national coverage. It busts every stereotype going about people living with dementia. Stereotypes that say that  people with this diagnosis just need care that keeps them safe and have nothing left to give; that loving someone with this diagnosis involves what the Alzheimer’s Society calls a living death. Duncan with his wife Fran are testimony to the fact that the diagnosis of dementia does not stop someone living, loving and using an extraordinary talent to celebrate his wife and give pleasure to many many people.
